Cats, unlike dogs, are quite far. But they are cute and cuddly, and they make good companions for. Your cat is sick in his life, despite all efforts. During this time you should be particularly sensitive to how you feel your cat. Try to see the difference in behavior. Look for physical symptoms. The sooner you see the warning signs, early treatment can begin, the better your chances of a cure for all your cat sick. Of course, you can be your vet to look for telltale signs of a disease, but the track changes a lot of difference to the health of your cat to make.

Changes in the behavior of your cat

Cats have the same behaviors make cats more. If they have an illness or injury, the cats will retreat and hide, so they can heal in peace. This is because in nature, is not a sign of weakness, an incentive for predators and competitors. Attention to small changes in your cat’s behavior, since this is your only clue to travel.

Cats are loners, but they remain on a regular basis and interact with their owners as part of the day. If your cat decides something more than a day, it is very likely that some difficulties. If your cat is normally playful interest or apathetic, but suddenly lost toy or refuse, can not move at all, your cat is suffering. Your cat purring may also be an indication of how he feels. Schnurr ends, combined with a bad shock and excessive defense can be a pain signal.

When to call a vet

If you notice your cat behaving strangely to him a complete physical examination. Check your wounds, bruises, or difficulty breathing. Some characters are perhaps not so obvious. If your cat does not seem right to you, call your veterinarian immediately. Other things you should do:

Bring your cats temperature. The temperature of a cat is 101 to 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit (38.3 and 38.1 degrees Celsius). A slight increase can be normal, but if your cat bed temperature of 105 degrees F, take her to the vet immediately. Temperatures below 100 degrees F for signs of a serious condition.
Check the drastic changes in appetite or thirst of your cat.
Check for irregularities in your cat feces. Tibi also a cause for concern. Examine their dirt. It should be stable and consistent. If your blood to see or things that look like rice grains take a sample and take him to the vet for testing.
If you notice a significant increase in the void, you declare your cat with a marked increase in thirst, he could be a sign of renal failure or diabetes. Bloody or cloudy urine less pain when urinating, a visit to justify the vet.
Vomiting and diarrhea are quite common in cats and can cause various stomach ailments. However, constant vomiting, projectile vomiting, blood in vomit and / or unproductive, nausea, a signal or a serious stomach problems may be. In addition, persistent diarrhea have a number of serious diseases.
Sneezing, coughing and watery eyes are often cause of a cold or flu-like illness and usually disappears within a few days. But if the symptoms persist or complexity of the discharge of pus-like, drooling or loss of interest or loss of appetite, call your veterinarian.
Anemia is characterized by pale gums, tongue and lack of energy and appetite. If you think your cat is anemic, it would take him to the vet immediately. Anemia can be a sign of other diseases.

Even though cats are among the most adorable and cute pets, they have the foul-smelling and stinking urine and waste as well. It is for this reason that some individuals decide to abandon or to send back their cats to animal shelters because they cannot withstand the smell of their waste or they failed to train their cats to use their litter box properly.

If this is the case, then train them to use human toilet. Is it really possible to train them to use our toilet? Why not use the litter box anyway? Well, you can train them to use human toilet with dedication and patience. For sure, some of us have watched on television cats using the toilet to pee and to poo, right? Yes, it really exists because some pet owners manage to train their cats to use human toilet all their own. It is advantageous to train cats to use the toilet because we do not have to buy garbage bags and worry of cleaning them everyday. However, training them requires lots of patience, time and dedication. You can simply tell them that the toilet is the right place to pee and poo because they do not have the same level of intelligence like we do.

What do you think are the reasons why pet owners decide to teach their cats to use the toilet? Aside from the fact that these boxes reek, litter boxes are also unsanitary and it can be the source of bacteria and microorganisms. When cats cover their waste using their paws, germs are transferred from their paws to different areas of your home. You do not want that to happen, right?

By training them to use the toilet, you will not smell foul and irritating odors from their wastes. You will also save thousands of dollars in buying different types of litter boxes related products for your cats. Moreover, some pet owners want to train their cats not only for sanitary and health reasons, but for novelty factor as well. By slowly training them, you can have your cats use the toilet in no time.

Steps in training cats to use the toilet:

First thing you must do is to slowly move the litter box closer to your toilet.
Once the cat is accustomed to using the litter box near the toilet bowl, gradually raise the box by leveling it with the toilet bowl.
After the cat is used to using the elevated litter box, place it on top of your toilet seat and let it stay there for several days until such time he is used to using it despite the height.
Once he is accustomed in using the box above the toilet seat, replace the box with a metal bowl which snugly fit your toilet bowl so the cat can use it comfortably.
After your cat has adjusted to the changes and he is comfortable using the metal bowl, you can now remove the bowl and you have successfully trained your cat to use the toilet bowl.

By following these steps, you will have a house free from smelly and irritating odor of cat’s pee and poo.

Cats are loved by their owners for being individualistic & independent, yet they are often accused by non cat owners of being aloof and/or arrogant. Recent studies conclude this is largely due to the fact they have no eyebrows. Some people then perceive them to posses a flaw in their personality, a coldness not seen in other domestic animals such as dogs.

This is of course not true, when a cat purrs and rubs up against their owner this is a definite show of affection, just like the wagging of a dogs tail.

Cats are first thought to have been domesticated by people on the island of Cyprus about 9,500 years ago and originated from only about five self domesticating African Wildcats (Felis silvestris lybica) which would have lost their fear of humans and come looking for food when prey dried up due to naturally occurring weather conditions.

Cats are very similar to their lion & tiger relatives. They posses the same strong flexible bones & super quick reflexes & the same retractable claws, making it easy for them to run at their pray & then capture it.

The cat is a nocturnal predator, its eye operates differently to a human eye, making it possible for him/her to see far better than other animals in reduced light situations, due to the fact it has a special layer of cells at the back of its retina, called the tapetum lucidum which reflects light back to the cells of the retina, essentially giving the eye another chance at collecting light. Cats have also evolved to hear fainter and much higher frequencies than we can, which is why they know there is a mouse in the cupboard long before we do.

Caring for your cat

As a cat owner you can have a huge impact on the health and well being of your companion by undertaking routine preventive healthcare at all stages of its life – from kitten hood through to old age. This offers the best chance of preventing problems arising or, at least, maximising the detection of any illnesses early on.

Owning a new kitten means you will have to vaccinate at around 8 weeks old, and then again at about 12 weeks. To maintain immunity, all adult cats require annual boosters.

Worming

The most common intestinal worms affecting cats in Australia are roundworm, hookworm, and tapeworm. Worms are a common cause of ill health in pets and can result in a loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea.

To protect your cat, common worms can be easily controlled with a routine worming treatment. Kittens need to be wormed every two weeks until twelve weeks of age, then monthly until six months of age.

We all worry about our own health and our families and this should also include our pets. Obesity in animals is just as much a problem as it is in the human world. There are illnesses that can cause weight problems but the main reason is like us, a lack of exercise and over indulgence. Of course we love to spoil and treat our pets, but we must remember that being disciplined is also a sign of love and affection, as our pets health is at risk if we over do it. If you continue to feed your pet excessive amounts, chances are you will lose your friend at a young age. Too much food and not enough exercise = A Fat Pet.

What Is Obesity?

Obesity is actually a disease, described as an overabundance of body fat that will be dangerous enough to impair health. Studies show that in humans problems occur when body fat is 20 – 25 per cent above normal body weight. In animals it is considered to be along the same guidelines. Diabetes, arthritis, respiratory problems, high blood pressure, cancer, heart disease and many other health issues can all affect your pet because they’re over weight.

How to Control Your Pets Weight?

Always buy a good quality pet food as cheap versions will be higher in salt and sugar. Look for established brands that offer lower calories, but the same nutrients as their regular food. A lot of companies now sell indoor pet food because of this problem. Stick to the exact feeding instructions on the packet. Just because your pet may clean their bowl it doesn’t mean they’re still hungry.

Remember a lot of animals eyes are bigger than their stomachs! If food is left out for them they will graze all day and definitely start to gain weight. Set exact feeding times and stick to them and don’t let your pet snack between meals. Try not to give into them by giving titbits from leftover food, you may think your being too strict but it’s in their best interest to maintain an established feeding pattern.

Exercise

Another problem is giving house bound animals enough exercise. The most exercise some animals get is walking to their food bowl. Obviously dogs who are walked everyday and get to play in the park will keep healthier than indoor pets. So you must set times and games up for your pet if for example they are an indoor cat. Having cat stands or toys you can throw for them to chase, will get them into the idea of exercise.Understanding your cats natural instinct is to pounce and chase after it’s prey, should give you an idea of which pet toys will be most appropriate. For dogs, throwing balls in the park is a great form of exercise. Please don’t throw sticks as so many vets see injuries caused by sticks getting stuck in dogs mouths and throats. Don’t forget most pet dogs have been bred to perform daily tasks alongside humans – sheep herders, sleigh pullers, hunters. So they naturally need to expel that energy every day and strengthen their muscles and limbs.

Many a pet owner has laughed to themselves about their little chubby kitty and how cute he or she is. Few people realise, though, that cat obesity is a major threat to cat health care and that it is on the rise. If your cat is a bit pudgy then, it might be time to think about a trip to the vet and a weight loss programme.

Chubby cats often endear themselves to owners and others alike, and it is not uncommon for several well meaning neighbours on the same street to all be feeding the same pet. Unfortunately, despite these people’s good intentions, feline obesity can significantly reduces a cat’s life expectancy and make him or her much more likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, diabetes and a variety of other serious ailments. That is to say that obesity in cats is as dangerous as it is in humans.

A healthy cat should have between 15 and 20% body fat and weigh between 3.5 and 4.5kg. A trip to the vet will confirm the figure for your pet. Any more than that and obesity is likely. Obviously, there are many factors that can affect a cat’s weight, so if you suspect your cat is overweight do see a vet first to rule out any underlying conditions and for advice on cat health care.

Ultimately, though, as with humans, the most likely cause for overweight cats is eating too much and exercising too little. Once your vet has confirmed your pet has a weight problem, speak to kindly neighbours who may be feeding your cat and explain how their well intended behaviour is jeopardizing the cat health care. You should then work to reduce the amount your pet eats. Do not simply take things into your own hands; seek the advice of a vet who will ensure the diet you give your cat is healthy. A diet of lean protein from chicken and turkey, for example, will encourage weight loss by speeding up metabolism. To ensure the diet is not too difficult for the cat, feeding more frequent smaller meals will avoid hunger.

Lastly, increasing physical activity is harder for the cats than dogs, since they don’t go on regular walks with their owners. It is possible, however, to encourage your cat to spend a little more time than usual outdoors or to increase the time you spend playing with them in the house.

Dietary change in humans and cats alike can seem daunting, but the process need not be too difficult if small steps are taken one at a time. These simple tips coupled with the advice of a good vet could promote cat health care and allow your pet to go on living a healthy life for many more years, so now is the time to check your cat’s weight.

Over the past several years, the wild mother cat who has taken up residence in our barn in rural Wisconsin has given me many opportunities to figure out how to tame wild kittens. The mother cat always hides her kittens very well, and then, when they are big enough to leave the nest and are big enough to eat kitty food, she brings them out and expects me to feed them.

When the wild mother cat brings her kittens out of the nest, it is the first time in their lives they have seen a human being, and they tend to be hissing, spitting bits of fluff that really look as though they mean business. And since they already have teeth and claws, I would rather not push the issue. I also would rather not let them remain wild, living in my barn, having kittens of their own. Six kittens, within a year or two, could turn into 56.

As of early 2005, the wild mother cat has had more than 20 kittens in our barn, and I have managed to tame them and to find homes for most of them (unfortunately, several were lost when the wild momma kitty took them out to teach them how to hunt).

Here are some tips for taming wild kittens:

1. Buy some canned kitty food — In my experience, kittens are always hungry and are always interested in canned kitty food. I have noticed it doesn’t matter what brand, just so long as it has fish in it. The smell of fish seems irresistible to kittens.
2. Let the kittens smell the canned kitty food — Open the can and then try to get as close to them as possible so they can smell the food. Once they get a whiff of it, and this is especially true of younger kittens that are anywhere from four weeks old to a few months old, they will be so interested in the canned kitty food they will forget (somewhat) that you are right next to them.
3. Use a fork (or spoon) to scoop out some of the food and let the kittens eat off the end of the fork (spoon) — This is an important step. Do NOT put a forkful of food down and then back off. From the very first, hold the fork toward the kitten and let the kitten eat off the end of the fork. Stick to your guns and do not give up. If the kitten wants canned kitty food, the kitten MUST eat it off the end of the fork or the spoon. This is the first step in getting the kitten used to being close to you and in growing accustomed to your hand coming closer. This will be useful later on when you are trying to pet the kittens. After the kitten has eaten food off the end of the fork/spoon, THEN you can put a little food down for the kitten to eat on its own.
4. Repeat step 3 every time you offer the kittens some canned food — At first, the kittens are going to be cautious about your hand coming toward them. The fork with the food will help to overcome that resistance. After you have done this a couple of times, the kittens will look forward to eating off the fork and will start to lose their fear of you and your hand.
5. Stay right there while the kittens are eating — After you have put out some canned food for the kittens, stay there and don’t move off. Let them eat with you next to them. This will help teach them to associate human beings with “good things.”
6. Carefully start to pet the kittens — After feeding them a couple of times without trying to pet them, which will begin to teach them that they can trust you, put food out and let the kittens start to eat. Then slowly reach down and pet them a little bit. Continue to sit there while they finish eating.
7. Carefully start to pick up the kittens — After you can successfully put out food and remain there while the kittens eat and can pet them a little bit, try picking up a kitten. If you can, grasp the kitten by the scruff of the neck. This is how mother cats carry their kittens, and when you do this, the kitten will go limp. Hold the kitten against your shoulder and talk softly to it, but don’t say “Hi kitten” or anything starting with an “h” sound. To a kitten, this sounds like a cat hissing, and the kitten will become frightened. Hold the kitten for a minute or so and then, grasping it by the scruff of the neck, set it down. After you have done this several times, the kitten will realize that no harms come to it from being picked up and handled.

Depending upon the age of the kittens and basic personality traits, the whole process, from starting with canned kitty food on the fork to being able to pet them and pick them up, could be accomplished in a few days or it might take a few weeks. Eventually, the kittens will know that people mean good things, and when they see you coming, they will come running to meet you. It has been my experience that cats quickly recognize when a situation is to their advantage, and once the kittens know you are a source of good things to eat and that you mean them no harm, they will want to be friends.

Becoming a pet owner is a big commitment. The decision is one that should be considered carefully, since you should view your adoption of a pet as a lifelong commitment. One of the best things you can do to ensure a good experience with pet ownership is to choose the right pet. Here are some things to consider when deciding if you should get a cat or a dog.

Do you travel frequently? Cats are definitely lower maintenance pets for travelers. For short trips out of town, you can often leave cats with a self feeder and water bowl, particularly if you have an automated litter box.

Are you looking for a companion who can run or walk with you? Active people often do better with active dog breeds. Many strong and sturdy breeds like Labrador retrievers can be trained to run right alongside runners.

How much time can you devote? – Dogs take more training than cats, and require more human interaction to be happy. If you need a really low maintenance animal, a dog is probably not for you.

How much space do you have? You can have either a dog or a cat in a small area, but not every breed of dog is suited to apartment living. Some dogs need plenty of exercise, and really need a fenced area for playing, along with regular walks with you.

How much are you looking to gain from the relationship? Though some cats are extremely friendly and loving, and some breeds of cat (like the Maine Coon) can even exhibit dog like behaviors, people who want a very interactive relationship with their pets usually choose dogs. Some cats can be somewhat aloof; preferring to dictate the level of interaction. Most dogs, on the other hand, will lap up every bit of time and attention you can give them.

How much cleanup are you willing to do? While you may have some cleanup to do with a puppy until he’s housetrained, most dogs will require very little cleaning up after them once they’re trained. With indoor cats, however, you must be prepared to clean the litter box daily unless you want your entire house to smell like the litter box.

Do you have children? Though either dogs or cats can be very good with children, you should consider your children’s ages and behavior when choosing a pet, and in determining what kind of pet to choose. Toddlers tend to play rough, and toddlers and puppies in combination can be tough to deal with. Middle aged dogs and cats are often good choices for families with small children, provided the pet has the right temperament. Most shelters can help you choose a pet that gets along well with little ones.

Keep in mind, however, that I am in no way discouraging families with children from having pets. Raising pets is a great childhood joy, and children and their pets often bond very closely. Children learn empathy and responsibility from pet ownership. But, when choosing your pet, you must be realistic about your family’s capabilities and you must be committed to training both the pet and the children on how to interact appropriately with each other.

Bringing home a new pet is a special joy. And, if you’ve chosen that pet wisely, it’s a joy that will last for many years to come.
